About Lori Colombo
Hi, I’m Lori Colombo and I am passionate about health, wellness and healing.
At a young age I intuitively understood that eating well and exercising made you look and feel better. At 16, I quit eating refined, white foods and started eating whole foods. I learned meditation from a used book and started going to yoga at the local senior center because yoga studios were practically non-existent at that time. That’s where I began my journey.
My career in the healing arts started in 1998 when I was knee-deep in motherhood and made a decision to delve deeply into my yoga practice. This transformative experience filled me with the understanding that in order to be at their best, it is essential for mothers to take care of themselves, making healthy lifestyle choices that feed their minds, bodies and spirits.
I studied yoga intensively at The Yoga Source in Berkeley and taught yoga both there and at 7th Heaven. My interest then moved to hands-on healing work. I was originally reluctant to do massage. I practiced Reiki, a Japanese form of energy work and had many powerful experiences. I was interested in expanding my repertoire, but stubbornly thought I would never do massage. Then one day, for no apparent reason, I changed my mind and enrolled in massage school. Not only did I find that I love doing bodywork, but that I have a talent for it.
I studied a variety of bodywork modalities at Diamond Light School of Massage, including swedish esalen style massage, deep tissue, cranial sacral, lomi-lomi and shiatsu. I also studied prenatal and postpartum massage at Alive and Well, and with Carole Osborne Sheets, the woman who literally wrote the book on pregnancy bodywork. Influenced by a variety of trainings and amazing teachers, I eventually developed my own signature style that is both effective and deeply nourishing.
My formal studies also include a Liberal Arts Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in physical and biological sciences from SFSU, Montessori Early Childhood Education Certification, and 3 years of studies in Western Herbal Medicine and Nutrition; 1 year with Kami McBride at the Living Awareness Institute and 2 years at the Ohlone Herbal Center in Berkeley.
As the owner of Massage for Moms, I bring together a lifetime of conscious eating, movement, and meditation practice, my years as an early childhood educator and dedicated mama, with my training in yoga, bodywork, western herbs, nutrition and my insatiable desire for personal growth to help women, especially mothers to achieve vibrant wellness.
Now working with Dr Christane Northrup and Team Northrup, I am integrating the mind-body and health-wealth connection together with top rated wellness products in my approach to total wellness/optimal health.
As a life long learner, I continue to further my education with both self study and formal programs. So stay tuned as this story is still unfolding. Thank you for your interest in my work.
